Nikoi Private Island
Family-friendly private island resort
Nikoi Private Island is a roughly 15-hectare private island about 8 km off Bintan's east coast. From Singapore it takes under three hours: a ferry to Bintan, a drive to Kawal and then a speedboat ride of around 20 minutes.
Accommodation consists of stilted beach villas with one to three bedrooms, some with a bunkroom for children, plus a few two- and three-bedroom villas with private pools. The architecture blends traditional Indonesian building with contemporary design, using driftwood and double-layered alang-alang roofs for natural ventilation, so there is no need for air conditioning.
What to expect
- Daily menus built around produce from local fishers, markets and the island's own farm, with Indonesian and Mediterranean dishes
- Kayaking, snorkelling, yoga and other water activities
- Children's activities such as tree climbing, jetty jumping and marshmallow roasting
- A sustainability focus; member of The Long Run
- The Island Foundation, supporting education in coastal communities across the Riau Islands
Nikoi pitches itself as a family holiday "like holidays used to be": simple, close to nature and unhurried. Bookings are made directly with the resort.
