Lagoi Bay & Treasure Bay: Bintan’s Northern Resort Area

The Lagoi area on Bintan’s north coast is the heart of Bintan Resorts, a self-contained holiday zone planned mainly with visitors from Singapore in mind. Ferries from Singapore’s Tanah Merah terminal reach Bandar Bentan Telani port in about an hour. There is no regular public transport inside the resort area, so most people rely on hotel shuttles, taxis or hired cars.

Lagoi Bay and Plaza Lagoi

Lagoi Bay’s beach runs for roughly 3.5 kilometres and is the only public beach within Bintan Resorts. Close by is Plaza Lagoi, a two-storey hub of restaurants, cafés and shops. In the late afternoon many visitors drift down to the sand to watch the sunset. After dark, strings of decorative lights around the plaza create a relaxed atmosphere that suits a leisurely dinner or an evening stroll. Near the beach there is also a love-lock installation that is popular for photos.

The Crystal Lagoon at Treasure Bay

Treasure Bay is built around its Crystal Lagoon, a man-made lagoon of about six hectares that opened in 2015. According to the company behind the technology, it is the largest crystalline lagoon in Southeast Asia. It stretches for around 800 metres, reaches a maximum depth of about 2.5 metres and is fringed by white sand. It is open to the public with an entry ticket.

Things to do include:

• Swimming and lounging in calm water that suits families.
• Water sports such as kayaking or cable skiing.
• Staying overnight in one of the glamping tents around the lagoon.

Tips

Weekends and holidays bring the biggest crowds, mostly visitors from Singapore and elsewhere in Indonesia, so come on a weekday if you prefer peace and quiet. Lagoi Bay’s beach is strongly tidal: at low tide the water retreats a long way and swimming is not always possible. Check the tide times and current ticket prices before you go.
