Flying to Bintan: Raja Haji Fisabilillah Airport

Besides the ferry from Singapore, Bintan can also be reached by air. This is particularly useful for travellers coming from elsewhere in Indonesia.

Raja Haji Fisabilillah Airport (TNJ)

Bintan's airport is located near Tanjung Pinang, approx. 7 km from the city centre. Formerly known as Kijang Airport, it now bears the name of the Malay national hero Raja Haji Fisabilillah. Its modern terminal opened in 2013.

Scheduled services are currently mostly domestic. The key route is to Jakarta (Soekarno-Hatta), which according to recent information operates daily, and Jakarta offers onward connections to much of Indonesia. There are also small-aircraft pioneer flights to remote islands within Riau Islands Province. The airport's international status was suspended in 2024 and reinstated in 2025, so check whether any regular international routes are running at the time of your trip.

Alternative: Hang Nadim, Batam

Hang Nadim International Airport on Batam is the largest airport in the province and offers considerably more connections. From there, you continue by sea:

• Head from the airport to Telaga Punggur ferry terminal on the east side of Batam.
• Take a speedboat to Tanjung Pinang, approx. one hour.
• Or make the short crossing to Tanjung Uban on Bintan's west coast.

This combination is handy when no suitable flight to TNJ is available, but allow extra time for the transfer.

Practical notes

• Schedules and airlines change; check current details with the airlines or the airport.
• The Lagoi resort area is in the north of the island, quite a distance from the airport, so arrange ground transport in advance.
• For international visitors, the ferry from Singapore remains the most common route.
